Feeding 200 guests: planning dinner

A shared meal is at the heart of the evening. Here is what feeding at least 200 people well involves, and what is still to decide.

Dinner sits in the middle of the evening, from 18:00 to 19:15, as a shared meal at long tables. It has its own slot so nobody has to choose between eating and taking part.

What it takes#

Feeding 200 or more people calls for careful planning:

  • A caterer, to be chosen.
  • Serving points spread across the venue, so queues stay short.
  • A dinner service planned to move quickly, so the meal stays unhurried for guests.
  • Refreshments from the moment guests arrive, and light refreshments later in the evening.

Dietary needs#

We plan to ask about dietary needs when guests book, including halal, vegetarian and allergy requests, so we can plan the menu properly.

What is still to be confirmed#

  • The caterer and the menu.
  • Whether alcohol will be served. The policy is still to be decided.
  • What a ticket includes.

Long tables are deliberate. They help a large evening feel personal, and they make it easy to talk with someone you have only just met, or to sit quietly and enjoy the food.
